To earn the CompTIA A+ certification, candidates must pass two exams:

  • The Essentials Exam (220-901)
    • Covers PC hardware and peripherals, mobile device hardware, networking and troubleshooting hardware and network connectivity issues.
  • The Practical Application Exam (220-902)
    • Covers installing and configuring operating systems including Windows, iOS, Android, Apple OS X and Linux. It also addresses security, the fundamentals of cloud computing and operational procedures.

Essentials Exam 220-901 Details:

  • Exam 220-901 consists of 90 questions
  • Exam is 90 minutes long
  • Exam format - multiple choice and performance-based 
  • Passing score is 675 (scoring range is 100-900)

Practical Application Exam 220-902 Details:

  • Consists of 90 questions
  • Exam is 90 minutes long
  • Exam format - multiple choice and performance-based
  • Passing score is 700 (scoring range is 100-900)

A+ Exams measure the following skills:
