Course Overview

This 4-Day instructor-led course covers troubleshooting slow networks and packet analysis for security to help security professionals better understand how modern exploits and malware behave at the packet level. In addition, this course provides a thorough introduction to the TCP/IP network stack.

Topics explored in depth include the following: using packet analysis to identify and resolve common network problems like loss of connectivity, DNS issues, sluggish speeds, and malware infections, building customized capture and display filters, monitoring the network in real-time and tapping live network communications, graphing traffic patterns to visualize the data flowing across your network, using advanced Wireshark features to understand confusing captures, building statistics and reports.

At the completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Monitor their network in real time and tap live network communications
  • Build customized capture and display filters
  • Use packet analysis to troubleshoot and resolve common network problems, like loss of connectivity, DNS issues, and slow speeds
  • Explore modern exploits and malware at the packet level
  • Extract files sent across a network from packet captures
  • Graph traffic patterns to visualize the data flowing across your network
  • Use advanced Wireshark features to understand confusing captures
  • Build statistics and reports to help you better explain technical network information to non-techies
