Course Overview
This 4-day hands-on course is designed for software developers who want to build strong, practical skills in using MySQL as a database for applications. Participants learn how to design efficient database structures, write powerful SQL queries, and use MySQL’s programming features to create and manage data-driven systems. The course balances theory with extensive labs to help developers connect database concepts to real-world coding practices. Topics include database design, data manipulation, stored routines, triggers, performance tuning, and working with MySQL from application code. At the compleiton of this course, participants will be able to:
- Understand how relational databases work and how MySQL supports application development.
- Design normalized database schemas using tables, relationships, keys, and constraints.
- Write SQL queries to retrieve, insert, update, and delete data efficiently.
- Use joins, subqueries, and aggregate functions for complex data analysis.
- Create and manage stored procedures, functions, and triggers for business logic.
- Analyze and improve query performance using the EXPLAIN tool and indexing strategies.
- Import and export data between MySQL and external systems or files.
- Connect MySQL databases to applications using APIs or programming languages such as Python.
- Apply database best practices for integrity, performance, and scalability.
