Course Overview

Android Studio is an Integrated Development Environment (IDE) designed for developing Android apps. This course introduces the software, then moves straight into UI development using the sophisticated, WYSIWYG layout editor and XML code to design and test complex interfaces for a wide variety of screen configurations. In addition, the course covers application logic development, exploring the latest APIs provided by the SDK. One of Android Studio’s greatest features is the large number of third-party plugins available for it, and this course explores the most useful of these, along with samples and libraries that can be found on GitHub. Finally, the course deals with the final stages of development: building and distribution.

At the conclusion of this course, participants will be able to do the following:

  • Understand the installation and configuration of Android Studio on Windows, macOS, and Linux.
  • Navigate the Android Studio interface and utilize essential tools for development, debugging, and testing.
  • Design and implement user interfaces using the layout editor and XML for multiple screen configurations.
  • Develop application logic using Android SDK APIs, activities, fragments, services, and modules.
  • Manage project structure and dependencies, including multi-module projects and Gradle build configurations.
  • Use version control (Git/GitHub) to track changes, collaborate, and manage project workflows.
  • Apply debugging and testing techniques, including unit, integration, and UI testing.
  • Explore and implement third-party plugins and tools to extend Android Studio functionality.
  • Build, sign, and distribute Android applications, including NDK projects and multi-APK configurations.
