Strides in Data Analysis at Baltimore Startup RedOwl

August 19, 2014

The “Most Innovative Company” of the year was founded right here in Maryland, Baltimore to be exact. The homegrown RedOwl Analytics is one of the many companies to join the throng of new tech startups in the area, including ZeroFOX and Virtru.

The company received numerous accolades recently for their unique approach to data analysis for corporations, which has the potential to be an asset to almost any organization. They managed to stand out among hundreds of other tech startups in Maryland alone.

But what is RedOwl actually offering and why do orgs need it?

No Data Left Behind

RedOwl’s flagship software offering, Reveal, organizes a hodgepodge of data points into a useful format for analysis. This definitely isn’t a new concept – there are hundreds of software solutions available for performance analytics. What makes Reveal unique is that it leaves no rock uncovered; text messages, phone calls and other business transactions, which are usually excluded from the data set, fit right into Reveal.

Data Analysis with Red Owl

Because all these different types of data are used in its analysis platform, RedOwl boasts the “PhD-level behavioral intelligence” that Reveal offers to organizations. This is probably very appealing to managers, but there are valid reasons to be weary about working for a company that uses Reveal:

  1. Every move you make is monitored, recorded and used to analyze your behavioral patterns and performance. No pressure, though.
  2. All of this information about you and your company is stored in the cloud, which is great if RedOwl stays true to their promise of “airtight data security.” If not, a data breach could be significantly more disastrous.

Why do we need a company like RedOwl?

RedOwl wants to creep on our all of our conversations and turn them into data points, but we are still wholeheartedly rooting for their success. Why?

There’s a reason why Governor O’Malley chose to back RedOwl. There’s a reason why investors from companies like Salesforce and Under Armour joined to raise $4.6 million of Series A funding for RedOwl. And there’s a reason why we’re writing about them: their technology is going to change organizations for the better.

The added analysis features in Reveal are sure to provide actionable insights on how managers can improve performance and efficiency. It makes it pretty much effortless to keep documentation of internal and external interactions, which is a huge part of any retrospective investigation. Managers can monitor their teams’ behavior patterns as a preventative measure against any internal incidents. There are a few organizations that suffered recently from internal breaches and/or leaks; if RedOwl software had been at work, maybe they could have predicted and prevented the situation altogether.

What do you think?

RedOwl is offering organizations a very powerful tool, one that is not yet matched by any other product on the market. We are excited to see how businesses use this resource and what RedOwl will offer in the future.

In the meantime, we would love to hear your opinions about the Reveal software platform.
